Huawei CloudEngine S5735-L is a series of managed Gigabit access switches (Layer 2+) of enterprise class, designed for deployment in campus networks of medium and large enterprises, branches, healthcare, and educational institutions. The devices combine high energy efficiency, advanced security mechanisms, and support for basic Layer 3 (L3) routing. Two main lines are available on the market: the classic S5735-L series (based on the VRP operating system) and the updated S5735-L-V2 generation with higher performance and dedicated stacking ports.

The S5735-L series addresses access-layer tasks in the campus network: connecting workstations, IP phones, Wi-Fi 6/7 access points, IP cameras, and other endpoint devices. With support for dynamic routing, iStack stacking, and advanced PoE technologies, the switches enable building fault-tolerant networks without excessive complexity and with minimal operational costs.

Interface Architecture and Performance

The line offers a wide variety of configurations adaptable to any access node requirements:

• Downlink ports. Depending on the model, switches are equipped with 8, 12, 24, 32, or 48 ports. Modifications are available with standard copper 10/100/1000Base-T ports, high-speed 2.5GE ports (for connecting Wi-Fi 6/7 access points), as well as fully optical All-Optical versions with GE SFP ports.
• Uplink ports. Fixed uplinks depending on the model index are 4 × GE SFP or high-speed 4 × 10GE SFP+ for connecting to the aggregation and core network layers.
• Switching capacity. The device fabric provides total throughput from 24 Gbps (for compact 8-port models) to 176 Gbps (for 48-port models), with packet forwarding rates from 18 to 132 Mpps. In the V7/V2 generation, system capacity is expanded to 520 Gbps.

Key Technology Features

• Layer 3 functionality. In addition to classic L2 switching, the devices support basic static routing, as well as dynamic protocols RIP, RIPng, OSPF, and OSPFv3, offloading the core network through local inter-VLAN routing.
• Fault tolerance and iStack. The intelligent iStack stacking technology allows combining up to 9 physical switches into a single virtual logical node with one management IP address. In V2 generation devices, 2 dedicated built-in 12GE stack ports are provided for this, which do not consume standard uplinks.
• Advanced PoE+ (for models with the P index). PoE power budget ranges from 124 W to 738 W. Unique Huawei technologies are supported:
  • Perpetual PoE: power to connected devices (IP cameras, access points) is not interrupted even during software reboot or switch firmware upgrade.
  • Fast PoE: the switch begins powering endpoint devices within seconds of being connected to the network, without waiting for its OS to fully boot.
• Carrier-class loop protection. Along with standard STP/RSTP/MSTP protocols, proprietary Huawei SEP (Smart Ethernet Protection) and the industry standard ERPS (ITU-T G.8032) are implemented, guaranteeing ring topology convergence and link restoration in less than 50 milliseconds.

Security and Intelligent Management

• Access control (Network Security). Support for multi-mode authentication (802.1X, MAC-based, and Portal), dynamic policy enforcement mechanisms (VLAN, QoS, ACL). Built-in protection against DoS attacks, ARP spoofing, and DHCP Snooping is implemented.
• Smart O&M. Integration of Telemetry technology enables real-time collection and transmission of state metrics to the intelligent analysis system Huawei iMaster NCE-CampusInsight for proactive detection of network anomalies and failures. Automatic Zero-Touch (Easy Operation) deployment is supported.
