Dell PowerProtect DD3300 (formerly known as Data Domain DD3300) is a dedicated 2U backup appliance designed for the small and medium business (SMB) segment, as well as remote offices and branches of large enterprises. The platform serves as a target storage for backups and ensures disaster resilience through advanced data deduplication algorithms.
Official lifecycle status. According to official Dell Technologies notifications, the DD3300 model has been declared End of Sale. However, the manufacturer continues to provide full technical support and firmware updates — the End of Service Life (EOSL) phase is scheduled for December 31, 2028.

Architecture and Capacity Configurations
The DD3300 system is built on a single-processor Intel x86 platform (8-core Intel Xeon Silver 4110) and is tightly bound to licensed usable capacity. The model features a software “Grow-in-Place” upgrade capability (e.g., expanding from 8 TB to 16 TB without adding physical drives if they are already pre-installed in the chassis):
- 4 TB Configuration. Entry-level model. Includes 4 × 3.5″ 4 TB HDDs and 16 to 24 GB of RAM.
- 8 TB / 16 TB Configuration. Mid-range. Includes 10 × 4 TB drives (usable capacity activated by license), 48 GB RAM, and a dedicated 480 GB SSD for fast NVRAM metadata caching.
- 32 TB Configuration. Maximum capacity. Utilizes the full drive bay with 16 drives (12 front-panel and 4 internal), 64 GB RAM, and a caching SSD.
Performance and Network Interfaces
Backup Speed. Standard throughput over CIFS/NFS protocols reaches up to 4.2 TB/hour. When integrated with client software and using the proprietary DD Boost technology (source-side deduplication), speed increases to up to 7.0 TB/hour.
Network Interfaces. The base unit includes 4 × 10G Base-T ports (or 1 GbE in the minimum configuration). Additionally, the expansion slot can accommodate a 2-port 10Gb SFP+ optical card (Intel X710) or a 4-port 16Gb Fibre Channel card for integration into SAN storage networks and operation in Virtual Tape Library (VTL) mode.
Data Domain OS Software Technologies
The platform runs on the specialized DDOS operating system and supports key enterprise data protection features:
- Data Invulnerability Architecture (DIA). Proprietary protection architecture performing continuous inline data integrity checks, detection, and automatic correction of media degradation errors (RAID 6 with dual parity).
- Global Deduplication. Data compression averaging between 10:1 and 50:1 (depending on data types), allowing a system with 32 TB physical capacity to store several hundred terabytes of archival copies.
- Cloud Tier and Cloud DR. Support for automatic movement of old immutable backups to long-term storage in public or private clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), as well as disaster recovery of infrastructure from cloud copies.
- Ransomware Protection. DD Retention Lock technology ensures backup immutability (WORM), blocking the ability to delete or encrypt them by malicious software until the policy-defined retention period expires.
